I am a big fan of photorealism and Cindy Wright is a real stand out in that movement. She is a painter born in Belgium who now lives and works in Antwerp. Being vegetarian I'm a bit squeamish when it comes to meat so I won't display her bacon cubes and various other charnel here, but you really need to check out her website and see it. It is so real, you can almost smell it. The same goes for other paintings of things way past their use by date. Another amazing feature on her website is a zoom tool that lets you get close enough to see the individual brush strokes. Genius.
http://www.cindywright.org/ TOMASZ STRZAŁKOWSKI is a digital/3D artist from Poland. I've been a fan of his for years. His biomechanical stuff is particularly great.
https://www.artstation.com/tomstrzal I'm fascinated by skulls and bones. They feature heavily in my own art. What Jim Skull does is incredible. I've learned from his website (if I've understood correctly) that he makes his own skulls from paper mache. Check out his website for more incredible work.
http://www.jim-skullgallery.com/ On of my all time favourite artists is Zdzisław Beksiński. He was a Polish painter, photographer and sculptor who was sadly ripped from this world by a cowardly murder in 2005. There is so much extraordinary work, there will be many more posts in the future.
http://beksinski.dmochowskigallery.net/index.html I want to start this blog with one of my absolute favourite artists, Alan Lee. Now he is of course famous the world over for his involvement in Peter Jakcson's "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" movies. But long before that he's been illustrating stories from mythology and folklore which is where I get inspiration for my own art. I love everything about Alan Lee's work. No one does watercolour like him and his pencil drawings are superb. His rendering of landscapes, architecture, characters and beasts are simply fantastic. |
