Matthew Simmonds has an honours degree in history of art and architecture of the medieval period as well as a background in architectural stone carving and classical ornament carving in marble.
His small scale architectural spaces carved into solid stone are a real wonder. I just can't get enough of looking at them. The beauty, the precision, the detail, the light and the shadow in these sculptures speak of a real master. How I would love to look over his shoulder and observe how he does it.
