This cover of a song by the Meat Puppets from Nirvana's Unplugged album has my favourite guitar solo of all time.

José Benlliure y Gil was a Spanish painter.
The painting is called La Barca de Caronte (The Barque of Charon) 1919, oil on linen. Charon, of course, is the ferryman of Hades in Greek Mythology who carries the souls of the newly departed across the rivers Styx and Acheron that divide the world of the living from the world of the dead. Karla Ortiz is a fine art painter, illustrator and concept artist. Her bio is as thin as my own but her work speaks volumes. I just love her graphite drawings and game card illustrations. To make sure I won't miss out on anything new I'm following her facebook page now. Below is a link to her website and more outstanding work.

Back in the day when one still went down to the local record store to buy a whole album of the band you liked, I picked up a couple of records because the cover artwork looked fantastic. I didn't know the band but I knew I had to have those records not even caring what the music was like. The artwork was done by Simon Larbalestier and The Pixies remain one of my favourite bands to this day.
